Configure the folders NIM manages, verify access, and define the home-directory permissions assigned to users.

Before you begin

Confirm that the account running the NIM service can access and create folders at the local or network paths you intend to manage.

Use a test location first

Before targeting a production home-folder share, validate the configuration with a dedicated test folder and a test user.

Add the file system in NIM

1. Go to Systems > Overview and select Add.

2. Choose File System as the system type.

3. Enter a system name and save it.

4. In the Configured Systems pane, select Configure for the new system.

Set the managed folder path

Enter the path where NIM should create home folders. For example:

C:\HomeFolders

Configure multiple paths

Optionally, configure multiple paths with this format:

<path>[:<depth>][|<path>[:<depth>]...]

For example:

D:\Misc\FS-Test | \\?\UNC\prod.core.network\Storage\Users\J. Smith:2 | \\?\U:\:2 | \\prod.core.network\Storage\Users\J. Smith:2

The optional depth value determines the folder depth NIM uses for that path.

Test the connection

1. Select Test Connection.

2. Confirm that NIM returns a success message before continuing.

Configure home-folder permissions

1. Open the Configuration tab.

2. In Access Profile 1, define the permissions that users should receive for their home directories.

3. If different groups or user types require different permissions, configure Access Profile 2 and Access Profile 3 as needed. Assign the applicable profile in a mapping using the FolderCreate function.

4. In the Available Tables pane, select Folders.

5. Select Save.
